Jerry Reynolds

2026 Wall of Fame Recipient

Jerry Lee Reynolds, a 1959 graduate of Alliance High School, represents a unique and deeply meaningful definition of success. His story is not defined by titles, college degrees, political appointments, or the number of boards he served on. Instead, Jerry's legacy is defined by a lifetime of hard work, entrepreneurship, generosity, mentorship, friendship, and an unwavering commitment to the people and community of Alliance.

Jerry was born and raised in Alliance and learned the value of hard work from his father, a World War II veteran and shoe repairman. As a high school student, Jerry spent much of his time working alongside his father, learning the craft of shoe repair. What began as a humble shoe repair business eventually became Art & Jerry's Boot Shop, a unique and successful retail business that served the working people of Western Nebraska for more than 50 years.

Jerry did not simply repair shoes and boots; he mastered his craft. He became known for his ability to alter and repair footwear for individuals with physical challenges, often providing comfort and solutions when others could not. Over the years, he expanded the family business into a thriving retail store, creating a lasting business that became a recognizable part of Alliance.

He mentored business owners and young people. He shared his knowledge freely. Jerry's accomplishments extend far beyond his business. Through careful study, lifelong learning, and a willingness to listen to others, he developed extensive knowledge of investing, real estate, stocks, commodities, gold and silver coins, antiques, pottery, and collectibles. He became someone to whom bankers, business owners, estate planners, ranchers, doctors, judges, and countless other community members could turn for knowledge and advice.

Jerry's influence can be seen in the stories of the people he helped. He encouraged business owners to make important investments that helped keep downtown Alliance storefronts occupied and businesses growing. He helped aspiring entrepreneurs find opportunities to purchase and build successful businesses. He connected people with homes, business opportunities, and resources that may otherwise never have become available to them. His influence has often come through simple conversations, conversations that changed the direction of a business, a family, or a person's life. Jerry has been a mentor, adviser, confidant, and friend to generations of Alliance residents.

Jerry's generosity is equally remarkable. He has supported countless local causes, benefits, fundraisers, young people, and individuals facing difficult circumstances. He has delivered Meals on Wheels, provided rides to people who could not drive, helped people who had nowhere else to turn, and quietly offered financial assistance to those in need. A simple repair might cost nothing more than a smile. Jerry has never seemed motivated by personal gain. He helped people because that is simply who he is.

One longtime friend described Jerry as the “George Bailey of Alliance” , a person whose influence is woven into the lives of so many people that it is impossible to fully measure what the community would look like without him.

Jerry has also been one of Alliance's greatest unofficial ambassadors. Jerry's message to visitors has always been simple: Welcome to Alliance. Stay awhile. Get to know our community. With his unique personality, humor, and unmistakable way of connecting with people, he has welcomed visitors from across the country and around the world. Travelers stopping in Alliance have left with stories, gifts, friendships, and a greater appreciation for the community.

Jerry Reynolds has demonstrated that success is not always measured by how high someone climbs, in a single achievement, how many titles they hold, or how much recognition they receive. Sometimes success is measured by how many people are better off because they knew you. Alliance would be a different place without Jerry Reynolds.

For his lifetime of achievement, entrepreneurship, service, mentorship, generosity, and lasting influence on the Alliance community, Jerry Reynolds is the 2026 Alliance Public Schools Foundation Wall of Fame inductee.

“I believe it speaks well of an Alliance High Graduate that Jerry understood the value of books.  Always searching for self-improvement.  You know it didn't matter to Jerry whether you were rich or not, a president of a bank or CEO, or just a fellow who was down on his luck - Jerry wanted to get to know you and see you succeed.  It is fitting and quite wonderful that you are recognizing Jerry Reynolds as a top-tier graduate of Alliance High.  Because Jerry is a top-tier human being.  Alliance is better because of him.”

-Dave Pearse, friend and longtime Alliance business owner
